Guest Tips & Highlights

Ruth

The location and the breakfast buffet were my two unbeatable aspects for citizenM Gare de Lyon. Being so close to the Gare de Lyon gave access to the RER and Métro to get you around Paris. The breakfast buffet is truly exceptional, fresh baked goods, unlimited coffee, other beverage options, hot selection etc .. I've had citizenM's breakfast buffet in London and I love the consistency of their "model" . I was also pleasantly surprised with the view.....while a building covered a portion of it I still loved that I could see the Eiffel Tower and the Seine 💙

Tips: It could have been that it's still shoulder season so there are some areas that look to be in process if being remodeled or fixed. In addition when I arrived in my room, it was unfortunate to find tools left behind in both the bathroom and inside of the room. It appeared that, again, work was being completed in the room. I just expect a hotel to be on top of these things so this is just a comment to help provide some feedback for the future.

Everything. The view of the river and Eiffel Tower were fabulous. The employees were great. The room was great. Great shower. Great location near two train/metro stations. Great breakfast. Need I go on?

Tips: That we couldn’t stay longer.

Weather Tips

Paris has a temperate climate but can be changeable. Layering is key—bring a light waterproof jacket, comfortable walking shoes, and a compact umbrella year-round. For summer, pack breathable fabrics and sun protection; in winter prioritize a warm coat, scarf, and closed shoes. Check forecasts before day trips (especially for Versailles or Giverny).

Understanding in Paris Prices

Hotel prices in Paris fluctuate with three main factors: calendar seasonality (summer and major holidays), large events (Paris Fashion Week, Roland-Garros, trade fairs like Paris Motor Show, major concerts), and location (1st–8th arrondissements and areas near landmarks and major train stations command premiums). High season runs broadly from late May through September and around the Christmas/New Year period; expect the highest nightly rates in June–August and during event weeks. Value windows are January–mid-March and late October–November (excluding school holidays), when rates and airfare drop and you can find deals—though weekends may still be pricier. Book 2–4 months ahead for normal travel; for Fashion Week, major events, or summer weekends, book 4–6+ months ahead. Short-notice travel (within 2 weeks) often faces limited availability and surcharges. Weekday vs weekend: business hotels can be pricier Mon–Thu while leisure areas push prices up on weekends. Apartment rentals may be cheaper for longer stays but check for cleaning and city taxes.

Essential Travel Tips for in Paris France

Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit

Transportation

Paris has an extensive public transport network (metro, RER, buses, trams) that is usually the fastest way to get around central Paris; taxis and rideshares fill gaps.

Transportation Tips

  • 1.Buy a carnet (10 single tickets) for short stays or a Navigo Easy / Paris Visite pass for multiple days—Navigo weekly pass is great if staying a full week.
  • 2.Use the Metro for most central trips; RER trains are faster to airports and Versailles/Disneyland (note different fare zones).
  • 3.Expect escalator-less stations—pack light; many metro stations have stairs.
  • 4.Beware of strike days (grèves). Have backup plans (buses, taxis, bike share).
  • 5.Try Vélib' bike-sharing for short trips and to see neighborhoods at street level but watch for traffic rules and cobblestones.

Pro Traveler Tip

Buy timed-entry tickets for major attractions (Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Versailles) and consider the Paris Museum Pass if you plan multiple museum visits. For quieter experiences, visit popular sites early morning or late afternoon, and explore lesser-known arrondissements (Canal Saint-Martin, Belleville, Batignolles) for authentic Parisian life.
