Fall
Spring and Fall – busiest and most expensive times, best weather for hiking, jeep tours and overnight camps.
Summer and Winter – lower prices and fewer tourists, but trade-offs include extreme heat in summer and cold/rainy conditions in winter.
March–May. Mild to warm days (comfortable for hiking and jeep tours), cool nights. Desert flora may show brief blooms after winter rains, making landscapes particularly scenic.
The Islamic holy month observed across Jordan; dates change yearly (lunar calendar).
Important religious holidays observed nationwide. Exact dates change yearly with the lunar calendar.
Jordanian national holidays can affect transport and accommodation demand.
From time to time Wadi Rum or nearby areas host endurance races, desert marathons, or special guided-event weeks. These are scheduled irregularly and often organized by private groups or international clubs.
Wadi Rum is a desert environment with very large diurnal temperature swings, strong sun and occasional high winds (sandstorms). Bring layered clothing (base layer, insulating mid-layer, wind shell), broad-spectrum sunscreen, sunglasses/goggles, a hat, and plenty of water. Nights get cold in winter—pack a warm jacket and sleep layers. Check forecasts before arrival for any wind advisories or rare heavy-rain warnings that could affect 4x4 access.
Wadi Rum Village's accommodation and tour prices vary primarily by season, the level of comfort (basic Bedouin camp vs. luxury bubble camp), and local/national holidays. Budget travelers can find basic shared camps and guesthouses for modest rates, while luxury desert camps with private bubble tents, en-suite facilities and guided experiences command premium prices. Prices spike during the best-weather windows (spring and fall) and around major holidays (Eid, Easter, Jordanian national holidays). Summer and winter low-demand periods often have discounts but be mindful that extreme heat in summer and cold nights in winter can affect the value of the experience. Expect additional costs for 4x4 tours, guided activities (rock climbing, jeep tours, camel treks), and park entrance/permit fees paid at the visitor center.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Access is by road from Aqaba, Petra and Amman; onsite travel is primarily by 4x4, camel or on foot with local guides. Nearest international gateways are Aqaba (smaller) and Amman (major).
Book a combined package (Aqaba or Petra transfer + licensed Bedouin-guided 4x4 tour + overnight in a reputable camp) to simplify logistics and often secure better rates. Bring layered clothing, a reliable powerbank or solar charger, cash in Jordanian dinar for small purchases and tips, and download offline maps; coordinate pickup/drop-off times carefully—roads and local schedules can shift, especially around holidays.
