Fall
Spring and Fall
Summer and Winter
March–May: daytime temperatures generally range from the high teens to mid-20s°C (60s–70s°F), nights are cool but not freezing, and occasional spring blooms appear after winter rains.
Ramadan is a movable religious month observed across Jordan; daily schedules, meal times, and business hours change. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are national holidays with increased travel within Jordan.
The Jordan Rally and similar motorsport events sometimes use southern desert stages in or near Wadi Rum. Schedules vary year to year; consult organizers for exact routing.
Wadi Rum's cinematic landscapes attract film shoots, commercials and professional photography trips year-round. These are irregular but can temporarily increase demand for permits and local guides.
Expect large diurnal temperature swings (hot days, cold nights), strong sun and occasional strong winds or sandstorms. Carry layered clothing, sun protection, plenty of water, and check the forecast/protected-area notices before venturing into the desert.
Wadi Rum Village is a small desert gateway with limited accommodation and services, so pricing behaves differently than in big cities. Luxury 'glamping' camps (bubble tents, heated cabins, private bathrooms) command high nightly rates year-round and can spike during Spring and Fall when visitors combine Wadi Rum with Petra and Aqaba. Basic Bedouin camps and simple guesthouses are fewer and either fill quickly in peak season or close in extreme summer. During Spring and Fall expect higher demand and near-peak prices; in Summer prices for mid-range options sometimes drop but comfort is compromised by extreme heat; in Winter some camps lower prices but may offer fewer services. Events (e.g., national holidays, religious observances, and occasional motorsport stages) or group bookings (tour groups, film crews) can cause short-term price jumps. Cash payments and bank-transfer or direct-arrival payments to camps are common; card acceptance is limited outside higher-end camps and Aqaba/Petra.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Access is usually by road; most visitors combine Wadi Rum with Petra or Aqaba. Inside the desert, 4x4 vehicles and guided tours are the norm.
Book popular camps and jeep/overnight tours well ahead for Spring and Fall. Combine Wadi Rum with Petra and Aqaba for efficient travel logistics, bring layers for cold nights, and plan active excursions for early morning or late afternoon to avoid midday heat. For the best experience, choose a guide with local Bedouin knowledge — they'll read the terrain, ensure safety and provide cultural context.
