Fall
Summer (June–August) — beaches and festivals draw crowds; hotel and flight prices are highest.
Winter (December–February) — lower prices and fewer tourists, but colder weather and some attractions have reduced hours.
March–May: Cherry blossoms and mild temperatures make walking the coast and parks pleasant. Haeundae Sand Festival often happens in May, and seaside promenades are enjoyable before peak beach crowds arrive.
Held in October (typically early–mid October). One of Asia’s most important film festivals, drawing international filmmakers, celebrities and screenings across multiple venues.
Usually takes place in August along Haeundae Beach. The festival includes beach concerts, water sports, night markets and cultural performances.
Typically in May on Haeundae Beach. Sand sculptures, family activities and beach installations create lively daytime events.
Often held in October (dates can vary). A large fireworks display over Gwangalli Beach, drawing huge local crowds. Planning ahead is essential due to road closures and crowding.
Expect a humid subtropical climate: wet monsoon season in summer (heavy rain in late June–July), warm humid summers, mild springs and falls, and chilly windy winters. Pack an umbrella or rain jacket for summer monsoon risk, sunscreen and a hat for sunny beach days, layered clothing for spring/fall, and a windproof coat for winter coastal breezes. Watch typhoon forecasts during late summer and early fall.
Busan's hotel and travel prices fluctuate with beach season, festivals and major holidays. Peak pricing occurs during summer (especially July–August) when domestic tourists flock to Haeundae and Gwangalli beaches, and during major events such as the Busan International Film Festival in October. Prices also spike around Korean national holidays (Lunar New Year/Seollal and Chuseok). Shoulder months (late spring and early fall) offer better value with pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Winter (December–February) is generally the cheapest time for accommodation and flights, except for holiday periods.
