Fall
Summer (beach season) and major festival weekends tend to be high season.
Winter (Dec–Feb) outside of holidays, and midweek business periods can offer the best value.
March–May: Temperatures warm, flowers (cherry blossoms and roses) bloom, and several local festivals take place. Days are pleasant for coastal walks and river parks.
A celebration centered on Ulsan’s coastal heritage (Jangsaengpo) with cultural performances, seafood markets, boat rides, and family activities. Typically held in late spring.
Late-spring floral displays and rose festivals along Taehwa River Grand Park and adjacent green spaces. Great for evening walks and photography.
Local summer events on beaches and coastal parks — live music, night markets, and seasonal food stalls (July–August).
A mix of small cultural festivals, local markets, and occasional trade/exhibitions tied to Ulsan’s industrial sector. These may cluster around late summer to autumn.
Ulsan's climate is coastal: expect humid summers with monsoon rains (June–July) and mild winters. Pack a lightweight rain jacket for spring/summer, breathable clothing for humid heat, and layered warm clothes for winter evenings. During typhoon season (late summer), monitor weather advisories and expect occasional ferry/train disruptions.
Ulsan's hotel and accommodation prices are shaped by a mix of industrial/business travel and seasonal leisure demand. Weekdays (Mon–Thu) often see higher rates in areas near industrial complexes and business districts because of corporate visitors to Hyundai and related suppliers. Leisure-centric neighborhoods (Jangsaengpo, Taehwa River area, near Ganjeolgot, and coastal resorts) become pricier during peak leisure periods: late spring (Whale Festival and cherry/rose season), midsummer (July–August beach season), and major national holidays (Lunar New Year and Chuseok). Budget travelers find the best value in winter (Dec–Feb) except for holiday weeks; shoulder seasons (fall and early spring) offer a good balance of lower prices and pleasant weather. Book early for festival weekends and summer; look for business-week deals if visiting for leisure midweek.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Ulsan is best navigated by intercity trains/buses, local buses and taxis; renting a car helps for coastal and countryside sites. There's no metro; use T-money for buses and taxis and Kakao/Naver maps for directions.
Save key addresses and hotel name in Hangul, download KakaoMap/Naver Map ahead of time, carry a T‑money card, and keep a small amount of cash for markets — this combination makes getting around Ulsan far easier.
