Fall
Summer and peak Fall foliage weekends (June–August and late September–October).
Winter and late winter/early spring (December–March, excluding holiday weekends) offer the best value on lodging and many restaurants.
March–May: Temperatures move from cool to comfortably mild. Early spring can still be wet and chilly, while late spring blooms and warming temps make it great for walks, birdwatching, and the start of farmers' markets.
A local market typically running from spring into fall featuring produce, prepared foods, and local vendors. Exact dates vary by year; check town or market websites for current schedule.
Not a single event in the village but a regional phenomenon. Late September–October brings foliage-driven festivals, scenic drives, and farm harvest events across Putnam County and the Hudson Valley.
Small-town holiday events and tree lightings in Brewster and nearby villages typically occur in late November or early December. They are community-focused and family-friendly; dates vary.
Guided hikes, trail runs, and outdoor education programs happen seasonally in nearby state parks (Fahnestock, Hudson Highlands, and others). Schedules change year to year—check park calendars.
Expect a humid continental climate: warm, humid summers and cold winters with snow possible. Pack layered clothing year-round. In spring and summer, bring insect repellent (ticks and mosquitoes). In winter, allow extra travel time for snow/ice and carry traction devices for shoes and a warm outer layer. Check local forecasts before setting out for hikes or scenic drives; some rural roads may be narrow and exposed to weather-related closures.
Brewster is a small commuter village in Putnam County, roughly 50–60 miles north of New York City. Hotel and short-term rental prices are modest compared with NYC but fluctuate strongly with seasonality and events. Summer (June–August) and peak fall foliage weekends (late September–October) are high demand, driving prices up—especially on Friday–Sunday nights. Weekday rates are generally lower due to commuter traffic rather than tourist demand. Winter (December–February) and late winter/early spring (January–March, excluding holiday weekends) are typically the most budget-friendly times for lodging. Large regional events (fairs, holiday weekends, and Leaf Peeping) in nearby towns and parks can push up rates for the whole Hudson Valley/Putnam County area.

Metro-North commuter rail (Harlem Line) serves Brewster/Brewster station—convenient for day trips from Manhattan. Driving is the most flexible option for exploring the wider Hudson Valley and Putnam County; expect limited local bus service and variable rideshare availability.
For a smooth visit, combine transit and driving: take Metro-North for an easy day-trip from NYC, then rent a car for an overnight or multi-day stay to access nearby parks and scenic drives. If visiting during peak foliage weekends, book lodging at least 6–8 weeks in advance and plan mid-week stays for better rates.
