Spring
Winter and Spring (December–April)
Summer (June–September)
February–April: warm, sunny days (highs often 70s–80s°F / 21–30°C) and cool evenings. Peak time for outdoor activities, golf, spring training, and festivals.
One of the world’s biggest collector car auctions, draws auto enthusiasts globally.
A PGA Tour signature event known for its stadium-style 16th hole and electric atmosphere; held in late January or February.
A major international equestrian event showcasing Arabian horses with competitions and exhibitions.
Major League Baseball spring training across the Phoenix metro area with many teams playing at Scottsdale stadiums in February–March.
Cluster of springtime cultural events including art fairs and culinary festivals (timing varies, often March–April).
Stay hydrated and use high-SPF sunscreen year-round. In summer, avoid midday outdoor exertion and plan hikes for sunrise or sunset; watch monsoon forecasts for thunderstorms and dust/haboob alerts. Winter and spring are mild but bring lightweight layers for cool evenings.
Hotel and resort prices in Scottsdale swing with weather, major events, and the golf/spring-training calendar. Peak nightly rates occur during Winter and Spring (roughly December–April) when snowbirds, golfers, and event-goers drive demand; luxury resorts and boutique hotels often sell out. Prices soften in late Spring and Fall shoulder months and drop substantially in Summer (June–September) when extreme heat reduces visitor numbers—this is the best time for bargain rates, package deals, and complimentary upgrades. Big-ticket events (Barrett-Jackson, Waste Management Phoenix Open, major festivals, and big Cactus League games) cause short-term spikes; plan and book around these dates to avoid surcharge rates.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX) is the primary airport. Scottsdale is car-friendly but has ride-hailing, taxis, and limited public transit options.
Book popular tee times, spa treatments, and restaurant reservations well in advance for Winter/Spring. For lower rates and fewer crowds, consider midweek stays in Fall or Summer (if you can tolerate heat), and bundle activities with resort packages. Bring lightweight layers for temperature swings and a wide-brim hat for sun protection.
