June: One of the world’s largest Pride celebrations including a parade, parties, and neighborhood events (notably in Greenwich Village).
February and September: High-profile fashion shows and industry events across Manhattan that attract global visitors.
Late August–early September: Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows draws international crowds.
April/June (often June): Film premieres and cultural programming across Lower Manhattan.

Pack layers year-round. In spring and fall expect cool mornings and warmer afternoons; bring a light waterproof jacket. Summers require sun protection (sunscreen, hat), breathable clothing, and hydration. Winters need an insulated coat, warm boots, gloves, and a hat; carry slip-resistant footwear if snow/ice is forecast. Check short-term forecasts before outings because NYC weather can change quickly.
New York City hotel and rental prices fluctuate strongly by season, major events, and neighborhood. Peak demand occurs in summer (June–August) and during the winter holiday season (late November through New Year’s). Major events — the UN General Assembly (Sept), major conventions, Fashion Week (Feb/Sept), the US Open (late Aug–early Sep), and NYC Marathon (Nov) — drive short-term spikes. Weekends are pricier in Manhattan; business travel raises midweek rates near Midtown and the Financial District. Neighborhoods: Midtown and Times Square command the highest nightly rates; Soho, Tribeca, and hotels with skyline views are premium. Brooklyn and Queens (e.g., Williamsburg, Long Island City) tend to be better value, and short-term rentals often vary by neighborhood. Booking 60–90 days ahead for summer and holiday travel is typical; last-minute deals are more common in January–early March.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Public transit (subway and buses) is the most efficient way to get around Manhattan and the outer boroughs; taxis and rideshares fill gaps. Airports (JFK, LaGuardia, EWR) are spread out—allow extra time for transfers.
Buy or reserve timed-entry tickets for top attractions (Statue of Liberty, Edge, Top of the Rock) and consider combination passes if you’ll visit multiple sites. For Broadway, book in advance or use same-day discount booths (TKTS) for flexibility; travel midweek to avoid weekend crowds and use neighborhood bases (Brooklyn or Queens) to save on hotel costs while still enjoying easy transit access to Manhattan.
