Fall
Spring and Fall (milder weather, peak tourist months)
Summer and Winter (extreme heat or chilly nights lead to lower prices and fewer visitors)
March–May: Temperatures typically range from pleasantly warm daytime highs to cool nights; wildflowers can appear after winter rains.
A moving Islamic month observed across Jordan; dates change annually according to the lunar calendar.
May 25: national celebrations across Jordan; increased domestic travel can raise demand for accommodations.
Typically held in the summer months in nearby Aqaba; draws regional visitors to southern Jordan and can affect bookings in Wadi Rum.
Local Bedouin communities sometimes organize social gatherings, music nights, and camel/horse races—mostly in milder months.
Wadi Rum is a true desert: expect large diurnal temperature swings (hot days, cool-to-cold nights), strong sun, and occasional winds or sandstorms. Pack sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), breathable layers for daytime, warm insulated layers for nights (especially in Winter), and a light windproof layer. Carry ample water (at least 2–3 liters per person for shorter outings) and electrolyte replacements; plan strenuous activities for early morning or late afternoon in hot months.
Wadi Rum Village is a small, tourism-focused community where prices are driven more by seasonal demand, special events (national holidays, nearby festivals), and the type of accommodation (basic Bedouin tents vs. luxury desert camps). Expect higher rates during mild-weather windows (Spring and Fall) and around national holidays. Luxury camps and private 4x4 guided tours will mark up significantly during high season. Conversely, very hot Summer months and the coldest Winter weeks are value seasons when some operators reduce prices or offer promotions. Prices for food and basic supplies in the village are relatively stable but slightly higher than in larger Jordanian towns because of logistics; bring some cash (JOD) for small purchases as remote vendors may not accept cards.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Wadi Rum Village is reachable by road from Aqaba (~1 hour) and from Petra/Beidha (~1.5–2 hours). The area is remote—arrange transfers or rent a car; once at the protected-area gate, many activities require a local guide and a 4x4.
Book a mixed itinerary: combine an overnight Bedouin camp stay with a sunrise 4x4 tour and a short hike to key formations (Lawrence’s Spring, Khazali Canyon). Coordinate your arrival from Aqaba or Petra to maximize daylight hours and reserve guides/camps at least 2–4 weeks ahead in Spring and Fall. Bring both a headlamp and a good-quality warm sleeping bag for desert nights.
