Seasonal guide to help you plan the perfect trip to in Aqaba
Fall
Spring and Fall (pleasant temperatures, ideal for outdoor activities and diving)
Summer (hotter weather leads to lower prices and deals; careful with midday heat)
March through May. Temperatures typically range from mild to warm (highs often 20–30°C / 68–86°F). Sea temperatures are comfortable for swimming and diving, and the desert landscapes around Aqaba start to green after winter.
Typically held in July–August, this local festival focuses on seaside entertainment—concerts, fireworks, cultural performances and family activities along the Corniche.
Ramadan dates shift annually; Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha spur domestic and regional travel with higher hotel and transport demand.
Around late May (Jordanian Independence Day on May 25) and sporadic cultural festivals, Aqaba may host parades, cultural exhibitions, and concerts tied to national celebrations.
Sun protection and hydration are essential year-round. In summer, avoid midday sun and plan outdoor activities for early morning or late afternoon. Bring a light jacket for winter evenings and early-spring mornings. For water activities, check sea temperatures and bring or rent the appropriate wetsuit (a thin wetsuit is common in winter). Monitor wind forecasts if you plan small-boat dives or snorkel trips—winds can create choppy conditions.
Aqaba's hotel prices fluctuate with international holiday periods, regional travel patterns, and local events. Peak demand occurs in milder months (spring and fall) and around global winter holidays when European and Gulf visitors arrive. Prices tend to rise during Ramadan, Eid holidays, and local festivals. The hottest months (summer) generally bring lower nightly rates and promotional packages because many tourists avoid extreme heat, though weekends and Gulf holiday dates can still push rates up. Major dives, conference bookings, and cruise ship calls (seasonal) can create short-term spikes. Expect budget guesthouses and three-star hotels to offer the largest relative discounts in value months; luxury properties remain pricier but sometimes release package deals tied to diving, spa, or transport inclusions.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Aqaba is accessible by air (Aqaba King Hussein International Airport - ACZ), road (bus or private car from Amman or neighboring countries), and via nearby border crossings (Eilat/Taba). Local transport includes taxis, rental cars, and organized tours.
Use Aqaba as a base for a broader Jordan itinerary: combine diving and beach time with day trips to Wadi Rum and a quick overland visit to Petra. Book dive operators and hotels in advance for spring/fall travel, and consider multi-day dive packages to get the best value.
