Seasonal guide to help you plan the perfect trip to in Cairo
Winter
October–April (more tourists, higher prices).
June–September (hotter, lower prices, fewer crowds).
March–May: Warming up after winter. Days are generally warm and sunny, evenings pleasant. Occasional dusty khamsin winds (sandstorms) can occur in late spring.
Islamic month of fasting observed across Egypt. Timings shift each year approximately 10–11 days earlier.
Major Islamic holidays following Ramadan and the Hajj, respectively. Domestic travel surges and many businesses close for 1–3 days.
Annual film festival typically held in November, attracting regional and international guests.
Major cultural fair often held in January — a magnet for local and regional visitors.
Nightly cultural show at the Pyramids that runs year-round but is especially popular in cooler months and during festival weeks.
Prepare for very hot, dry summers and mild, pleasant winters. Bring sun protection (hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen), lightweight breathable clothing for summer, and a warm layer for winter evenings. Stay hydrated and plan outdoor activities for early morning or late afternoon during hot months. Have a small scarf to protect against sand/dust during khamsin winds.
الهرم (Al-Haram, Giza) sits adjacent to one of the world’s top attractions — the Giza Pyramids. Hotel and tour prices rise sharply during peak tourist windows (cooler months, major holidays) and around major events in Cairo. High-end properties near the Pyramids and in nearby Zamalek/Giza/Heliopolis command premiums year-round; budget options cluster farther from the plateau. Prices also spike during Ramadan evenings and Eid holidays when domestic travel increases. Book 60–90 days ahead for peak season and international holidays; last-minute deals are more likely in hot Summer months and late Winter shoulder windows. Private guided tours and sunset-timed experiences carry surcharges; conversely, weekday daytime visits outside holidays can yield value. Flight prices to Cairo follow international patterns: higher in European summer and around Christmas/New Year.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Getting around Al-Haram/Giza is easiest by taxi/ride-hail, private transfer, or organized tour. Public transit (metro) connects Cairo but not directly to the Giza Plateau.
Book a guided sunrise visit to the Giza Plateau for cooler temperatures, softer light for photography, and fewer crowds — combine it with a nearby museum or a Nile-side meal later in the day to maximize comfort.
