Philadelphia experiences hot, humid summers and cold winters with occasional snow. Spring and fall are the most temperate. Bring a layered wardrobe, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection for summer, and insulated outerwear with waterproof footwear for winter. Check forecasts ahead of major outdoor events and build time for traffic or SEPTA delays during festivals.
Philadelphia's hotel prices follow a predictable pattern: peak demand in late spring and summer (June–August) due to warm weather, festivals, conventions and college graduations, with another surge around major events (Made in America, Phillies playoff games, marathon weekends and holidays). Weekends in Center City, Old City and near the stadiums are more expensive than weekdays for business travelers. Value season is typically late fall (mid-November outside of holiday weekends) through winter (excluding the Christmas/New Year holiday week), when colder weather and fewer tourists lower rates. Booking 30–90 days ahead for popular weekends and 3–6 months for major events will often secure better pricing.
