Steigenberger Pyramids Cairo exceeded all of our expectations and made for an absolutely amazing stay. The hotel offers the perfect combination of a cultural trip and a relaxing pool holiday. Our room was spacious, spotless, and cleaned beautifully every day. The complimentary bottles of water were replenished daily, and the view was simply breathtaking, with both the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum visible from our room. Breakfast was outstanding. There was a huge selection each morning, and the eggs were cooked to perfection exactly how we wanted them every single day. The pool bar service could be a little slow at times, but the food was delicious and well worth the wait. The pool area was immaculate and very well managed. Towels were brought over immediately, and the staff were always happy to move umbrellas to provide either sun or shade depending on what we wanted. The reception staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful throughout our stay. The hotel was wonderfully quiet at night, and we slept incredibly well every evening. There was genuinely nothing to fault. Although it takes around 30 minutes by car to reach downtown Cairo, we were very glad we chose this hotel. It offered a much more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere than staying in the busy city centre. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It is an exceptional place to stay and the perfect base for anyone wanting to experience Egypt’s incredible history while also enjoying a luxurious and restful holiday.

Seasonal guide to help you plan the perfect trip to in Cairo
Winter
October–April (cooler weather, major events, holidays).
June–August (hotter, lowest prices), with occasional deals in Ramadan depending on timing.
March–May: warming temperatures after winter, with days often pleasant but with occasional dry, dusty khamsin winds in March–April. Ideal for sightseeing before peak heat.
Annual international film festival usually held in November, attracting filmmakers and audiences from across the region.
Typically held in late January; one of the largest book fairs in the Arab world, drawing publishers, writers, and large local crowds.
Ramadan is a month-long Islamic observance with daily fasting and special night-time social life; Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha occurs later in the year. Dates move each year according to the lunar calendar.
A spring festival observed after Orthodox Easter, often in April; Egyptians celebrate outdoors with picnics and traditional foods.
Expect very hot, dry summers with strong sun—use sunscreen, hats, loose clothing and hydrate. Watch for khamsin spring windstorms (dust) that reduce visibility and can make breathing uncomfortable; carry a scarf or mask. Winter nights can be cool—bring layers and a light jacket. Check air quality and pollen forecasts if you have respiratory sensitivities.
Cairo's hotel and travel prices fluctuate with the cooler tourist season and with major events. Peak rates typically occur October–April, especially around December–January holidays, the Cairo International Book Fair (January) and other festivals. Summer (June–August) is the value season: hotels, domestic flights and some tours often drop rates significantly because high daytime heat suppresses demand. Ramadan and the dates around Eid can be mixed—some hotels raise prices with special packages and high demand, while daytime city activities and some businesses slow down; expect variability and check event calendars. Weekends and national holidays (e.g., Revolution Day, religious holidays) can spike domestic demand and rates. Booking 1–3 months ahead for high season and festival dates usually secures better rates; last-minute deals are more common in summer.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Cairo's transport mixes an efficient metro network with heavy road traffic; a combination of metro, rideshares and walking in compact neighborhoods works best.
Visit the Giza plateau at sunrise or sunset for cooler temperatures, softer light for photography and fewer crowds; buy museum and site tickets in advance when possible and hire a licensed Egyptologist guide for deeper context and to avoid tourist traps.
