Seasonal guide to help you plan the perfect trip to in Paris
Fall
Summer (June–August) and major event weeks (Fashion Week, Roland-Garros, Christmas/New Year).
Winter (November–March) excluding the Christmas/New Year peak — best for lower hotel rates and indoor cultural experiences.
March–May: Temperatures commonly range from cool to mild (around 8–18°C / 46–64°F). Parks and gardens (Tuileries, Luxembourg, Parc Monceau) bloom and outdoor cafés reopen in earnest. Early spring can be brisk with rain; late spring brings very pleasant weather.
Multiple weeks throughout the year, with major womenswear shows typically in February/March and September/October and menswear/haute couture at other times.
Late May–early June Grand Slam tennis tournament held at Stade Roland Garros.
14 July national holiday with parades, fireworks, and public celebrations.
Annual spring marathon attracting international runners—usually in April.
21 June nationwide free music festival with performances across Paris.
All-night contemporary arts festival in October with installations and late openings.
Late November–December seasonal markets, lights on major avenues, and skating rinks in select locations.
Layering is essential year-round—light waterproof jacket for spring/fall, sunscreen and water in summer (and be mindful of heatwaves), warm coat, scarf, and gloves in winter. Comfortable walking shoes are a must: Paris is best explored on foot. Check local forecasts for strikes or transport disruptions during your stay.
Paris hotel and rental prices vary strongly by season, major events, weekends, and school holidays. Summer (June–August) and major events (Fashion Week, Roland-Garros, Paris Marathon, Christmas/New Year) drive peak rates; central arrondissements (1st–8th, Saint-Germain) and areas near major attractions command premiums. Shoulder seasons (late spring and early fall) offer a good balance of weather and value. Winter (November–March) outside Christmas/New Year typically has the lowest rates, though strikes or sudden demand spikes can alter prices. Booking 2–3 months ahead for shoulder seasons and 3–6 months ahead for peak seasons and events is typical for best rates. Short-stay weekend pricing is often higher than midweek. Apartment rentals mirror hotel trends; consider neighborhoods like Canal Saint-Martin, Belleville, or Batignolles for better value.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Paris has an extensive public-transport network (Metro, RER, buses, trams), bike-share (Vélib'), regional trains to nearby destinations, and two major airports (CDG and Orly). Walking is often the fastest way in central neighborhoods.
Book timed-entry tickets (Louvre, Orsay, Eiffel if reserved access) in advance, take early-morning or late-evening slots for popular attractions to avoid crowds, and explore lesser-known arrondissements (Canal Saint-Martin, Belleville, Parc des Buttes-Chaumont) for local flavor. Consider a Paris Museum Pass if you plan to visit many museums over consecutive days.
