Weather Tips

San Juan has a tropical climate—pack lightweight breathable clothing, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and a light rain jacket for sudden showers. During June–November be prepared for tropical storms and hurricanes; monitor forecasts and register with your embassy if traveling internationally. Bring insect repellent for evenings and inland trips. Stay hydrated and use sun protection; sidewalks and stone streets in Old San Juan can get hot.

Understanding in San Juan Prices

San Juan's hotel and accommodation prices vary by season, neighborhood, and events. Expect the highest rates during the dry/high season (roughly December–April) and around major festivals, long holiday weekends, and cruise-ship days when Old San Juan fills up. Upscale neighborhoods like Condado, Old San Juan, and Isla Verde command premium prices; boutique hotels in historic Old San Juan and beachfront resorts in Condado/Isla Verde are the priciest. Value can be found in mid-range hotels in Santurce, Miramar, and by staying slightly outside central neighborhoods or booking guesthouses, guest apartments, or hostels. During summer and fall (June–November), prices drop overall, though hurricane-season volatility can cause last-minute surges or discounts. Weekends are more expensive than weekdays, and special events (San Sebastián, Pride, jazz festivals) drive short-term spikes.
