Paris has a temperate climate with mild springs and falls, warm summers and chilly, damp winters. Pack a compact umbrella and waterproof outer layer year-round. In spring and fall, bring layers for variable days (t-shirt + sweater + light jacket). In summer, lightweight clothing with a light sweater for evenings; in winter, a warm coat, scarf, and waterproof shoes. Comfortable walking shoes are essential year-round since much of Paris is best explored on foot.
Hotel prices in Paris peak in Summer (June–August), during major events (Paris Fashion Week, Roland-Garros, Tour de France finish) and around public holidays (Easter, Christmas/New Year). Expect the highest nightly rates and stricter minimum-stay rules in July and early August. Shoulder seasons (Spring and Fall) still show elevated prices but often with promotional offers and shorter minimum stays. Winter (December–February) outside the Christmas/New Year period is the most budget-friendly time to find deals and lower occupancy rates; January sales and fewer tourists can drop prices significantly. Neighborhood and hotel class matter: central arrondissements (1st–8th, 4th) and hotels near major sights keep prices higher year-round, while areas like Montparnasse, Bastille or outer arrondissements and well-connected suburbs offer better value.

Paris has an extensive public transport system (metro, RER, buses, trams) and is also highly walkable; rideshares and taxis are available but can be slower during peak times.
Book major museum timed-entry tickets and Eiffel Tower tickets in advance; arrive early (at opening) to beat crowds, use neighborhood markets for a more authentic food experience, and consider staying in a well-connected arrondissement (3rd, 4th, 7th, 9th, 11th) for a balance of atmosphere and transport links. If traveling in August, check whether your preferred restaurants are open and consider booking an apartment or hotel with on-site dining options.
