Amazing service. The property is beautiful but the quality of service is exceptional.
Everything. No description or picture did this place justice. I read and research everything as I dont like surprises. This place is amazing. The quality second to none. From the layout of the room, the facilities to the incredible quality of the fresh produce I was in heaven. Gym, pool, spa all of it. I had a better meal in the 'bar' than at the Michelin star restaurant that was adjacent. The staff are at your beck and call. Opening doors, giving you umbrellas, organising bookings, taxis. Everything! The views down to the city were amazing. I loved everything about this place and especially the comfort of the bed (hard to find in Europe) and the huge marble shower with built in seat. The toilettries were high end and felt and smelt divine and I never use room products. 10/10 Villa Maia you are indeed a true boutique motel.

Seasonal guide to help you plan the perfect trip to in Lyon
Summer
Summer (July–August) and major events (Fête des Lumières in December, key festivals in May–July).
Late fall (November), January and February (after New Year) — fewer tourists and lower prices.
March–May: temperatures warm from cool to comfortably mild, trees and parks bloom, outdoor terraces open. Great for exploring streets, markets, and riverside walks.
Lyon's signature winter event — spectacular light installations across the city that transform landmarks, streets, and squares. Typically held in early December.
Summer arts festival (June–July) on the Roman theatre hill of Fourvière featuring music, theatre, dance, and cinema.
A well-known electronic and indie music festival usually held in late May, spread across clubs and outdoor spaces in Lyon.
The city hosts major biennales in dance and contemporary art in alternating years — schedules vary, but they attract international artists and large audiences.
Expect a temperate climate: mild springs and autumns, warm summers that can have heat waves, and cool, damp winters with occasional snow. Layers are essential year-round; bring a compact umbrella and a light waterproof jacket for spring/fall and a warm coat, hat, and gloves for winter. Stay hydrated and plan indoor options during hot spells in summer.
Lyon's hotel and dining prices vary by season and by major local events. High season and peak event windows (summer festivals and the December Fête des Lumières) drive room rates up significantly — expect 25–80% increases during those times, especially in central neighborhoods (Presqu'île, Vieux Lyon, Fourvière). Business travel and trade fairs at Eurexpo create midweek demand and raise prices in Part-Dieu/Proche Part-Dieu. Value seasons are late fall (November, early December before the light festival) and late winter (January–early March) when occupancy is lower and hotels run promotions. Weekends are more expensive in city-center boutique hotels while chain hotels near train stations/airport are steadier. Advance booking (4–8 weeks) is recommended around events; last-minute deals are possible in low season.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Lyon has an efficient public transport network (metro, tram, bus, funicular), an international TGV hub (Part-Dieu), an airport (Satolas/St-Exupéry) linked by the Rhônexpress shuttle, and bike-sharing (Vélo'v). Walking is excellent in central districts.
Base yourself in Presqu'île or Vieux Lyon for first-time visitors for walkability and atmosphere; choose Croix-Rousse for a bohemian, hilltop vibe, or Confluence for modern hotels and family-friendly spaces. Buy a Lyon City Card for 1–4 days if you plan to visit multiple museums and use public transport — it often saves money and time.
