Seasonal guide to help you plan the perfect trip to in Amman
Fall
Spring and Fall (pleasant temperatures, outdoor activities).
Summer and Winter (lower hotel rates, fewer tourists).
March–May. Temperatures are mild (roughly 15–25°C/60–77°F), flowers and greenery make city parks and nearby ruins more attractive, and day trips to Jerash and the Dead Sea are comfortable.
Moving dates (lunar calendar). Ramadan is observed nationwide and dramatically changes daily rhythms; nights are lively with Iftar meals and social gatherings. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha bring holiday travel and family celebrations.
Summer festival held in nearby Jerash (usually July), drawing visitors from Amman for concerts, traditional performances and cultural nights.
Typically a spring event (often April). Attracts local and international runners and creates lively weekend energy in the city.
May 25. National celebrations, official events and some public ceremonies in Amman.
Occasional biennial or yearly cultural and design events showcasing local artists, galleries and design studios—dates vary so check current schedules.
Layering is key: mornings and nights can be cool even when days are warm. Always carry sunscreen, a hat and refillable water bottle. In winter bring a waterproof jacket and warm layers; in summer avoid mid-afternoon heat and plan outdoor sightseeing for mornings or evenings.
Hotel and service prices in Amman fluctuate with season, religious holidays, major events, and local school vacations. Spring and Fall (mild weather) are the busiest and often most expensive periods for hotels and guided tours. Summer (hot months) typically sees lower hotel rates and good deals in the city, as many international tourists head to the Red Sea coast and domestic travelers visit mountain resorts; however, weekends and major holidays still push prices up. Winter can offer value pricing except around Christmas/New Year and when snowfall or storms disrupt travel. Ramadan and the Eid holidays alter demand—prices for hotels may rise for Eid staycations and for travelers wanting the special Iftar experiences. Business travel affects weekday rates (higher Mon–Thu), so weekend stays can be cheaper. Booking 4–8 weeks ahead for Spring/Fall and 1–3 weeks for Summer/Winter can secure better rates; use the Jordan Pass if you're planning multiple major site visits (includes visa in many cases and site entry discounts, reducing overall costs).
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Getting around Amman is easiest by taxis and ride-hailing apps; shared minibuses and intercity bus operators serve nearby attractions. Driving is possible but expect heavy traffic and limited parking in dense neighborhoods.
Buy the Jordan Pass if you plan to visit multiple paid archaeological sites—it covers visa fees (for eligible stays) and entry to many major attractions, saving time and money. For day trips, hire a driver or join a small group tour to maximize time; get a local SIM card at the airport or city kiosks for maps and ride-hailing, and always have small cash for markets and taxis.
