Fall
Spring and Fall
Winter and Summer
March–May: mild days (15–25°C / 59–77°F), blooming hills and pleasant evenings — ideal for walking Amman's hills, exploring the Citadel, and doing day trips to Jerash and the Dead Sea.
Annual multi-week cultural festival (usually in summer) in the ancient city of Jerash, north of Amman.
A regional film festival showcasing Arab and international cinema, typically held in the fall.
National holiday on November 25 with official ceremonies, parades and local celebrations in Amman.
The Islamic holy month of fasting and its concluding Eid celebrations affect daily life across Jordan — timing moves each year.
Annual running events (dates vary) that attract locals and regional runners; routes often pass through key city areas.
Amman sits at around 700–1,100 meters elevation so temperatures can swing between warm days and cool evenings. Pack layers year-round: a light jacket for evenings in Spring/Fall, a warm coat for Winter, and sun protection (hat, sunscreen) for Summer. Bring sturdy walking shoes for cobblestones and hills, and a compact umbrella or lightweight rain jacket for winter months.
Hotel and service prices in Amman vary with seasonality, weekends (Friday–Saturday are the Jordanian weekend), and major religious holidays. Spring (March–May) and Fall (September–November) are peak tourist seasons — demand rises for mid- to higher-end hotels and boutique properties near Rainbow Street and Abdali. Summer (June–August) tends to be hot and can see lower city-center hotel rates, though prices can spike around domestic events and the Jerash Festival. Winter (December–February) is the most value-friendly time for budget travelers; some hotels discount rooms but desert excursions and seaside resorts (Dead Sea, Aqaba) are busier on holiday dates. Factor in currency (Jordanian dinar, JOD) and that many smaller vendors accept cash only. Flight prices to Amman (AMM) also follow similar patterns: cheaper in winter, pricier in spring/fall.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Getting around Amman is easiest by taxi, ride-hailing apps, and organized day tours. Renting a car is useful for flexibility on day trips but expect busy traffic and limited parking in the city center.
Buy the Jordan Pass if you plan to visit Petra and other sites — it includes visa waiver (if you stay 3+ nights), and entry fees for many attractions, saving time and money. Base in Amman for 2–3 nights to acclimate and then use it as a hub for day trips; schedule Petra and Wadi Rum as multi-day outings to avoid rushed visits.
