March: The nation’s largest indoor flower show, held annually at a convention center venue, drawing large crowds and boosting hotel demand.
Early July: Multi-day Independence Day festival centered on music, fireworks, and free public programming around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and waterfront.
Late August–early September (Labor Day weekend area): Major music festival that attracts big crowds—hotel and transit busy those days.
November: Full marathon, half-marathon, and shorter races draw runners and spectators; road closures affect central areas on race weekend.

February: Large indoor auto show at the convention center drawing families and car enthusiasts.
Pack layers year-round: a lightweight waterproof jacket for Spring/Fall, breathable fabrics and sun protection for Summer, and warm layers plus a sturdy coat, hat, gloves, and waterproof boots for Winter. Check forecasts before walking tours and allow extra travel time during snow or heavy rain. Summer thunderstorms can be sudden—carry a compact umbrella.
Philadelphia hotel prices fluctuate with seasons, weekend/weekday demand, and major events. Peak rates occur in summer (June–August) and around big events (Philadelphia Flower Show in March, Made in America in early September, Wawa Welcome America around July 4, major sports playoffs, and large conventions at the Pennsylvania Convention Center). Weekend rates are notably higher in Center City and Old City; weekday business demand can keep rates elevated during conferences. Value periods are typically winter months (December–February) excluding the holiday period and major event weekends, when rates drop and package deals appear. Booking 4–8 weeks ahead is usually fine for shoulder seasons (Spring, Fall), but for summer and event weekends book 2–3 months in advance—or earlier for limited boutique properties. Short-notice travel on event weekends can push rates very high; consider staying in nearby neighborhoods or across the river in Cherry Hill (NJ) for lower prices and easy PATCO/bridge connections.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Center City is compact and walkable; SEPTA (subway, buses, trolleys, Regional Rail) and Amtrak provide fast public transit. Philadelphia International Airport is served by SEPTA Airport Line; 30th Street Station is the rail hub. Rideshares, taxis, and bike/scooters fill gaps. Driving/parking downtown is often slow and expensive.
Buy a city pass for major attractions if you plan to visit many sites; download SEPTA/Transit apps, bring comfortable walking shoes, and arrive early for Independence National Historical Park to avoid crowds.
