Winter
Summer
March–May: hot, increasingly humid; pre-monsoon heat peaks in April and May, with Songkran (Thai New Year) celebrations in mid-April.
Mid-April nationwide water festival; Patong becomes one of Phuket’s liveliest spots for street-wide water celebrations.
Usually held in September or October, a traditional and intense festival centered in Phuket Town but with activities island-wide; features processions, vegetarian food stalls and spiritual rituals.
Full-moon float festival, typically in November; people release decorated krathongs (floating baskets) on water and light lanterns in some areas.
December–January festive season with parties, beach fireworks and peak international tourism.
Check short-term marine forecasts before booking boat trips — the Andaman Sea can switch from calm to rough quickly during monsoon months. Bring a lightweight rain jacket for sudden downpours June–October. Use reef-safe sunscreen year-round, stay hydrated in hot months, and avoid swimming during red-flag warnings. For snorkeling/diving, choose early-morning trips in the wet season for better visibility.
Patong Beach follows typical Phuket seasonality: hotel rates and tour prices spike during the dry high season (December–February), with additional surges around Christmas, New Year and major holidays (Chinese New Year, Thai long weekends). Shoulder months (March–May, and November) offer better value and discounted packages. The wet season (June–October), especially September–October, is the cheapest time for accommodation and many operators run promotions, but expect frequent rain and some tour cancellations. Nightlife and food prices remain relatively stable year-round, though beachfront restaurants and popular nightlife spots charge premium prices during high season.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit

If you want calm water and the best day-trip snorkeling/diving, book morning boat tours in December–March and consider private or small-group trips.
