What a charming place in a charming location. Unpretentiously, it provided all I needed in the way of comfort. Breakfast was good and ample. The front desk staff speak good English and were always extremely helpful with suggestions, information, and practical plans and instructions for the subway. It is a fairly modest hotel but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and appreciated all it had to offer.
Fantastic location, amazing staff, very good breakfast, excellent coffee, super comfy beds and pillows

Late Fall and Winter (mid-November through February) excluding major holidays.
March–May: Temperatures warm from cool to mild. Early spring (March) can be windy and dusty; by April–May parks bloom and sightseeing improves.
The most important national holiday; dates change each year (usually Jan–Feb). Expect major domestic travel, closures, and higher prices.
Early May national holiday that creates a short but busy travel period across China.
Usually held in April; a draw for film professionals and cinephiles.
Occurs in late spring/early summer (dates vary); cultural races and zongzi (rice dumplings) are highlights.
Fall festival (Sept/Oct depending on lunar calendar) focused on moon-gazing and family gatherings.
Oct 1–7 is a major travel peak with domestic tourism surging and many attractions packed.
Held in autumn (commonly October); draws international and domestic runners.
Beijing has a continental monsoon-influenced climate: cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. Spring can be windy with dust storms; summer brings most rainfall and thunderstorms; fall is typically the clearest season. Always check the AQI (air quality index) before outdoor plans—carry a particulate mask if you have respiratory issues. Pack layers year-round, a lightweight rain jacket for summer, and a heavy coat for winter. For outdoor activities like the Great Wall, choose early morning for better air quality and fewer crowds.
Hotel and flight prices in Beijing fluctuate strongly with China's national holiday calendar and the international tourism cycle. Peak pricing occurs during Chinese New Year (Spring Festival, late Jan–Feb when it falls), the Labor Day/May Day holiday (early May), and National Day Golden Week (Oct 1–7). Summer (July–Aug) also sees higher rates because of school holidays and international tourists. Outside those windows, especially late Fall into Winter (mid-November through February, excluding Spring Festival), you can find lower rates and good deals. Major international events (film festivals, conferences, trade fairs) and high-profile political meetings can also cause local price spikes, sometimes with short notice.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Beijing’s public transport is extensive: a comprehensive subway network, buses, taxis, and long-distance rail/air links. Airport options include Beijing Capital (PEK) and Daxing (PKX).
Plan around China's holiday calendar: book hotels, trains, and domestic flights months ahead of major holidays (Chinese New Year, May Day, National Day). Always carry a paper copy of your hotel address in Chinese and have an offline map and translations ready. If you want to use mobile payments widely used in China, set them up before you go or ensure you have alternative payment methods (cash, an international card).
