Seasonal guide to help you plan the perfect trip to in Amman
Fall
Spring (March–May) and Fall (September–November)
Winter (December–February) generally offers the best value for lodging and fewer crowds
March–May: Temperatures are pleasantly warm (daytime 15–25°C / 59–77°F). Wildflowers and greenery are at their best; ideal for walking the Citadel and Rainbow Street, and for day trips to Jerash and the Dead Sea.
Held in the ancient city of Jerash, north of Amman, usually in July. It celebrates music, dance, and cultural performances set among Roman ruins.
Typically takes place in autumn; draws local and international runners and creates a lively city atmosphere on race weekend.
Islamic holy month observed across Jordan; dates shift each year. Daily life, business hours, and social routines change significantly.
May 25: National celebrations including parades, official ceremonies and local events around the city.
Various events take place across the year — theatre and film festivals, book fairs and exhibitions — often clustered in spring and autumn.
Dress in layers year-round: mornings and nights can be cool even when afternoons are warm. Bring sunscreen and a hat for sun protection in spring and summer. Carry a light rain jacket for late fall and winter; waterproof shoes are helpful if heavy showers are forecast. If traveling in winter, include a warm coat for evenings and higher-altitude areas where snow is possible.
Hotel and travel costs in Amman fluctuate with seasons, major local events, and religious holidays. Peak demand comes in Spring (March–May) and Fall (September–November) when weather is mild and outdoor sightseeing is ideal; expect higher nightly rates and fewer last-minute deals. Summer (June–August) brings very hot daytime temperatures — some international visitors avoid the heat, but regional tourists and festival-goers can still drive demand, especially during July (Jerash Festival) and holiday weeks; prices may be mixed. Winter (December–February) is the most budget-friendly overall, except around Christmas/New Year and any winter festivals; heavy rain or rare snow can reduce demand and push rates down. Ramadan and the Eid holidays (dates vary each year) can raise prices for hotels and flights as families travel; conversely, some restaurants and attractions adjust hours rather than prices. Business travel, conferences, and school holiday weeks also push rates up. Weekends (Friday–Saturday) and national holidays see short spikes in local transport and hotel prices. Booking 4–8 weeks ahead for high season and 1–3 months ahead during major events is recommended to lock in better rates.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Amman is served by Queen Alia International Airport (AMM). Within the city, taxis, ride-hailing apps (Careem/Uber), shared service taxis, and public buses are common; rental cars are useful for day trips.
Base yourself in central neighborhoods like Jabal Amman, Rainbow Street, or Abdoun for good access to restaurants and sights. Use Amman as a hub for easy day trips to Jerash (north), the Dead Sea (west), and longer trips to Petra and Wadi Rum. Hire licensed guides for major archaeological sites to gain deeper context and often skip queues.
