Carry insect repellent during monsoon and summer, and always have a reusable water bottle and basic first-aid items.
Rourkela's hotel market is dominated by budget and mid-range properties, with a small selection of higher-end hotels near the steel plant and major market areas. Prices rise during major festivals (Durga Puja, Diwali) and when corporate or government activity at the Rourkela Steel Plant increases. Weekend rates in the city center can be noticeably higher than weekday rates. During the off-season (hot pre-monsoon months and heavy monsoon periods), you can find good value — discounts, shorter minimum stays, and last-minute deals are common. Book well ahead for festival periods and any conferences or industrial events tied to the steel plant; consider guesthouses or serviced apartments for longer stays.
