Fall
Summer and major holidays (late May–September and late November–December).
Late Winter (January–early March) and parts of Fall (November except Thanksgiving week) when rates and crowds are lower.
Check weather conditions before traveling to New York (New York).
New York hotel prices are highly seasonal and event-driven. Peak rates occur around major holidays (New Year’s Eve), major events (Fashion Week, UN General Assembly, New Year’s Eve, major marathons), and during Summer when tourism peaks. Midtown and Times Square hotels carry a premium year-round; boutique neighborhoods (Lower East Side, Williamsburg) can vary more with local events. Weekend rates are generally higher than weekdays in tourist-heavy areas; conversely, business districts (Midtown, Financial District) can be pricier during weekdays. Booking 30–90 days in advance usually secures better rates, but last-minute deals sometimes appear off-season. Prices spike in late November–early January, mid-May to September, and during large conventions and holidays. Value seasons are typically late Winter (January–February post-holidays) and late Fall (early December excluding holiday weeks) as well as early Spring weeks outside major events.
Insider advice to help you make the most of your visit
Extensive public transit (subways, buses, commuter rails) plus plentiful taxis and ride-shares; walkable neighborhoods are often fastest for short trips.
Plan major indoor attractions for the hottest or coldest part of the day. Book timed-entry tickets for popular sites (museums, Top of the Rock, Statue of Liberty ferry) and use early mornings on weekdays for the shortest lines.
